(One of) The homeless man in my neighborhood got a haircut.
I’ve lived in my apartment for more than 5 years now and it’s safe to say I have an idea of some of the constant things/people.
I go to the gym using the same route, it’s a 5-7 minutes walk and at a certain intersection very close to the butcher shop whose owner and I have cultivated the habit of saying hi to each other when we see each other, there’s always this man who most times has a cigarette in one hand and mutters to himself.
He’s pretty much a calm guy who keeps to himself but the one distinct thing about his appearance was that he had this really thick, unruly mop of hair.
Some weeks ago, I saw him on the road and he almost looked unrecognizable because he’d gotten a haircut and it just made me wonder who was kind enough to get him that haircut.
It got me thinking about all the small acts of kindness that happen in neighborhoods when you really pay attention. Someone paid for that haircut, someone else probably recommended the barber, someone noticed he needed it. These invisible threads of care and connection are everywhere once you start looking for them.
Over the next posts, I’ll be sharing my neighborhood with you. It isn't necessarily Instagram-famous or particularly picturesque, but it's real, and that's what I want to show you.
Here are a couple of pictures taken on film camera on walks, runs, and grocery shopping.

Thanks for looking!
